The HexBed™ is the foundational growing module of the Hideaway Hex Garden System™. Built from natural cedar and shaped by one of nature’s most efficient forms, each HexBed™ creates a strong, beautiful, expandable planting space that can stand alone or become part of a larger HexScape™.

Why Hexagonal?
Hexagons are found throughout nature because they balance strength, efficiency, and connection. They fit together without wasted space (Tessalation), create strong angles, and allow individual units to become part of larger patterns.
In the garden, that geometry creates practical advantages. HexBeds™ can stand beautifully on their own, nest into clusters, form pathways and patterns, and expand into larger HexScapes™ over time.
The shape is beautiful — but it is not just decorative. It is functional geometry borrowed from nature.
Built From Cedar
HexBeds™ are currently built from cedar because the material belongs in the garden. Cedar is warm, durable, naturally beautiful, and well-suited to outdoor growing spaces.
The wood brings a softer, more natural presence than plastic or metal, while still providing the structure needed for raised-bed growing. Over time, cedar weathers, settles into the landscape, and becomes part of the visual character of the garden.
HHGS™ currently works with select cedar options, including Japanese Sugi Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and Western Red Cedar depending on availability, application, and client preference.
As HHGS™ grows, the system will continue exploring other materials and regional building options. One of our core principles is to work with what is already available whenever possible — using local resources, native materials, reclaimed materials, or alternative construction methods where they make sense. The goal is not to force every Hexscape™ to look exactly the same, but to create a flexible system that can adapt to different places, climates, budgets, and communities.
The geometry stays consistent. The materials can evolve with the place.
Designed to Grow With You
A HexBed™ can begin as a single growing bed for herbs, greens, garlic, flowers, or vegetables. As the gardener’s confidence, needs, and imagination grow, additional beds can be added to create larger layouts.
HexBeds™ can be arranged into clusters, paired into TwinHive™ beds, used with HarvestSpire™ vertical supports, combined with HarvestTower™ modules, or adapted with future HHGS™ connectors and accessories.
The system does not require everything at once. It is designed to start simply and expand naturally.

Sizes and Configurations
HexBeds™ are designed in several standard sizes so they can serve different spaces, budgets, crops, and layouts. Smaller beds can work well for compact gardens, patios, herbs, and starter plantings, while larger beds create stronger visual anchors and more productive growing zones.
But standard does not mean rigid. Where a space calls for something different, HHGS™ can design and build custom-sized HexBeds™ to suit the specific needs of the site, the gardener, and the growing plan.
That flexibility is part of the larger HHGS™ philosophy: work with what is already there instead of forcing every space into the same mold. A HexScape™ should respond to the space it lives in — the sunlight, access, materials, layout, budget, and the people who will use it.
As the system expands, HexBeds™ can be connected, grouped, capped, covered, stacked, or paired with other HHGS™ components to create layouts that feel intentional from the beginning and adaptable over time.
