MiniHex™

Small cedar planters with the same HHGS™ geometry — designed for herbs, seedlings, microgreens, patios, gifts, and small-space growing.

MiniHex™ is a family of small cedar hexagonal planters designed for herbs, seedlings, microgreens, patio growing, kitchen gardens, gifts, and compact living spaces.
They carry the same design language as the larger HHGS™ system, but in a size that can fit on a balcony, patio, windowsill, table, shelf, or small garden corner.

MiniHex™ gives new gardeners a low-pressure way to begin, while giving experienced growers a beautiful tool for propagation, experimentation, seasonal starts, and specialty crops.

Why MiniHex™?

Not every growing journey begins with a full garden. Sometimes it begins with a few herbs near the kitchen, a tray of microgreens, a tomato seedling, a gift for a friend, or a small planter that reminds someone they can grow something of their own.

⬢ Easy entry point into the HHGS™ system
⬢ Ideal for patios, balconies, kitchens, and compact spaces
⬢ Useful for seedlings, herbs, microgreens, and small plants
⬢ Beautiful enough for display, practical enough for real growing
⬢ Great for gifts, workshops, schools, and starter gardens
⬢ Designed to connect small-space growing with the larger HexScape™ philosophy

MiniHex™ makes growing feel accessible. It invites people to begin where they are, with the space they have, and with something simple enough to care for but meaningful enough to matter.

MiniHex™ Sizes and Uses

MiniHex™ is designed as a small family of planters, each with a slightly different role in the growing process, but none of them are meant to be limited to single-crop planting. Like the larger HHGS™ beds, MiniHex™ planters are designed to support combinations — edible, floral, medicinal, aromatic, pollinator-friendly, or simply beautiful.

MH-9™ is the tallest MiniHex™ planter, designed for compact feature plants and deeper-rooted small-space growing. Its added depth makes it a strong option for peppers, dwarf tomatoes, herbs, strawberries, edible flowers, and companion plantings that need a little more room to thrive.
Because the MH-9™ is still compact and movable, it can also support seasonal flexibility. A pepper grown in an MH-9™ can be moved to follow better light, placed near the kitchen or patio during the growing season, and brought indoors in the fall for overwintering where conditions allow. It is a small planter with serious growing potential.

MH-6™ is a versatile everyday MiniHex™ size for herbs, greens, flowers, compact edible plants, and companion pairings. It works well for combinations like culinary herbs with edible flowers, leafy greens with aromatics, or small pollinator-friendly plantings that bring beauty and function into a compact space.
The MH-6™ is especially useful as a flexible bridge between a display planter and a practical growing module. It can stand alone on a patio, balcony, table, or garden edge, or work as part of a larger MiniHex™ grouping where multiple planters create a small companion planting system.

MH-6MG™ Microgreens is designed for microgreens, shallow-rooted crops, and small indoor or patio harvests. It can help bring fast, fresh growing into everyday spaces.

MH-4™ SeedlingStarter is designed for seed starting, young plants, propagation, and early-stage growing. It helps bring the HHGS™ system into the beginning of the plant’s life cycle.

MiniHex Family with connectors

Together, the MiniHex™ family supports different stages of growing — from seed to starter plant, from kitchen greens to patio herbs, from small experiments to future HexScape™ layouts.

Designed For Small Spaces

MiniHex™ is especially useful where a full garden bed is not possible. Balconies, patios, windowsills, shared homes, rental spaces, classrooms, and small urban yards can all become places where growing begins.

Because each MiniHex™ is compact and movable, gardeners can experiment with sunlight, location, crop choices, and seasonal changes without committing to a permanent layout.

What Can You Grow in MiniHex™

MiniHex™ is best suited for compact crops, shallow-rooted plants, starter plants, herbs, flowers, and small growing experiments.

⬢ Basil, parsley, cilantro, thyme, oregano, chives, and other kitchen herbs

⬢ Lettuce, arugula, mizuna, baby greens, and edible leaves

⬢ Microgreens and quick indoor harvests

⬢ Seedlings and starter plants for larger HexBeds™

⬢ Compact peppers and dwarf tomatoes in deeper MiniHex™ models

⬢ Strawberries and trailing edible plants

⬢ Edible flowers such as nasturtium, calendula, and violas

⬢ Pollinator-friendly flowers for patios, balconies, and small gardens

⬢ Medicinal and aromatic plants such as lavender, mint, chamomile, lemon balm, and rosemary

⬢ Small floral combinations designed simply for beauty, scent, and joy

MiniHex™ supports growing in layers. A single planter might combine a compact feature plant, a useful herb, a pollinator flower, and a trailing edge plant. That makes even a small container feel alive, productive, and connected. The point is not only what MiniHex™ can grow, but what it can start — curiosity, confidence, daily connection, and the habit of paying attention to living things.

Pairings and Companion Planting

One of the strongest features of the MiniHex™ line is how well it supports companion planting. Even at a small scale, the same HHGS™ principle applies: a good growing space should not be treated as a one-plant container when it can become a small ecosystem.

MiniHex™ pairings can be practical, edible, medicinal, aromatic, ornamental, or all of the above. Some combinations are designed for food. Some are designed for pollinators. Some are designed for fragrance, tea, beauty, or seasonal colour. Others are simply experiments — small enough to try, observe, learn from, and improve.

Possible MiniHex™ Pairing Ideas

Rosemary + thyme + oregano
A dry-loving Mediterranean herb grouping for cooking and fragrance.

Lavender + chamomile + lemon balm
A calming aromatic and tea-inspired combination.

These combinations are only starting points. As the MiniHex™ line develops, HHGS™ will continue testing pairings for food, flowers, fragrance, medicine, pollinator support, and seasonal use.

A Natural Fit for Gifts and Learning

MiniHex™ is approachable enough for beginners, but flexible enough for serious growers, teachers, chefs, herbalists, and experimenters. That makes it a natural fit for gifts, workshops, school projects, community events, and small-space growing education.

A MiniHex™ can become a first herb garden, a seed-starting project, a microgreens station, a pollinator planter, or a simple way to introduce someone to the larger HHGS™ system.
